Diving head-first into a new relationship can seem like the most romantic thing you can do. After all, the most romantic movies out there make it seem so incredible. Let’s face it, there is nothing better than spending every second with your new partner. However, moving things along too quickly can really ruin something that might have otherwise blossomed into something good – something truly great and everlasting.

Today, our Jersey matchmakers are going to show you the telltale warning signs you’re rushing the relationship and putting love at risk.

1. You’re always oversharing.

You’ve told them about multiple childhood traumas and even some of your deepest fears. You’ve shared with them stories that you only told your best friends in the world. Oversharing in a relationship usually means that you aren’t taking the time to build a true connection. Instead, you’re forcing it with information that might be too sensitive for a brand-new relationship. If you find yourself divulging too much at once, things that should be reserved for down the road, try to take a few steps back and lighten things up so you don’t scare them away.

2. You have few boundaries.

You lack the ability to set the right boundaries. This is all about setting expectations for how others can treat you and holding them accountable to abide by them. When you’re in a fast-paced relationship with no boundaries, things can go sour quickly. It can literally ruin everything in your relationship.

If you don’t have any set boundaries with your new love interest, it’s time you take a step back and create a few. Let them know what you’re not willing to put up with and make sure you don’t allow them to overstep those boundaries you set in place.

3. You’re pushing “the talk.”

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be in an exclusive relationship, but if you’re pushing it on the second or third date, you know that you’re moving too fast. The exclusivity talk should happen when you two have spent a little time getting to know each other and when you both want to give it a shot. It’s especially annoying when you’re pushing it and the other person doesn’t want to be serious – or at least not right away.

Everyone needs time to figure out if they want to pursue something serious with someone, so make sure you’re not overstepping their boundaries with your pressure tactics.

4. You sleep over at their house all the time.

We know that new relationships are super exciting, and it’s natural to want to spend a lot of time together. Still, staying over at his place every weekend can actually be hurting the relationship. You may rush the relationship too much by acting like you’ve been together for many years. Don’t suck all the fun and excitement out of the relationship right away – give things time to develop at a natural pace.

5. You have big plans for the future.

You’re thinking about the future already. You may even be pondering what it’d be like to live together when you’ve only been dating for three weeks. Your head is in the clouds, dreaming about what could be. Perhaps the other person doesn’t even know your future plans because you keep them all to yourself. That’s probably a good thing because that will undoubtedly scare some people away.

6. You text them all the time.

Texting is great and all, but when you’re doing it all day long, you may get sick of each other. Maybe you can’t get enough of each other and you just want to be talking to them all the time. While that’s normal, you must know that this constant communication makes you run the risk of getting bored of each other fast. Trust us on this one.

So tell us, are you rushing things along in your new relationship? Are you pushing for exclusivity or overstepping their boundaries? If you notice you’re guilty of a couple or more of these behaviors, it’s time you take a step back and take a deep breath. Give the relationship time to develop at a natural pace so you’re not forcing things along or scaring them away.
